I wrote the reveiw below, and I have to stay, the principles of that book still apply! The series contains tomes on health, happiness, wealth, and love, and I recommend them all! They are not silly "rules" such as "don't return his phone calls" or "don't kiss on the first date" but instead, timeless principles of true self examination and real encouragement.

Buy a stack of notecards, and copy down all the secrets and notes of your own, and flip through them daily...it WILL change your life. Tenggren's Pirates, Ships, and Sailors

Recommended for youngsters interested in the sea
As another reviewer has observed, this book is well recommended for children and parents who are interested in stories about sailing and the sea. I have very fond memories of my father, mother and grandmother reading this book to my brother and sister and I at our house on the Toronto Island, a community of homes that was - and still is - connected by water and largely dependant on the activity of boating. Directly in front of our house was the expanse of Lake Ontario, which, while not as spectacular as the ocean, was big enough to inspire awe. The stories, poems, and pictures in this book, which my brother and sister and I still remember and occasionally recite to each other, are worth finding again, and passing from generation to generation in any family that has an interest in pirates, ships, and the sea. When I see it again, I know I will be able to close my eyes and hear the fog horn that used to blow during bad weather, and smell scent of the coast, and imagine the days of old at sea. I am so glad Amazon has listed this book, for I have been searching for it on the Net for some time.

Jim Sanderson

This is a treasure trove of sailing ship stories.
Pirates, Ships and Sailors a big Golden Book drawn by Tenggren, and written by Kathryn and Byron Jackson is a treasure trove of sailing stories that is a burried treasure. Burried by time (first printed in 1950) and impossible to find on the book store shelves. I found mine used in an old book store a decade ago. On many levels, art, composition, presentation of high character, humor and pathos this book succeeds. There is something for everyone in this. The book is like a finely crafted ship in a bottle. Each one like a memorable meal. Of course you have to read it with at least one child snuggled up next to you, but a gaggle of kids is better. The kids love to hear these stories over and over and they are deep enough and dear enough that I look forward to reading them over and over as well. While I find tears of joy filling the corners of my eyes still and often from the goodness that pours from this picture book's stories of Pirates, Ships, and Sailors. Even the poetry is sweet avoiding the monotonous singsong of lesser poetry. Amazon.Com is the first bookseller who could find a new copy for me. For which I am gratefull. Our used copy is worn from much use. I have looked for a new copy for over a decade. It is the kind of book you will want to save in a special place making sure your grand kids and great grand kids will not miss the experience. It is a heirloom that says you have hope for their future. Frank Hazelwood, age 42

Deeply Insightful Book
I enjoy reading history books. This has to be one of my all time favorite history books. The fact that many years after its publication, it is still in print speaks to its continuing popularity.

If you are interested in presidential history, this is the book for you. Dr. Williams has done a lot of intense research about the U.S. presidents who hail from Tennessee.

Wow! Great information on our presidents.
This is a must have book for all history lovers. Dr. Williams does a great job of bringing the Tennessee presidents to life. I learned so much I did not know about the presidents and their lives.

There's Nothing I Own That I Want.

There's Nothing I Own That I Want
There's Nothing I Own That I Want by Harrisene Jackson is an excellent novel. It is very well written. I loved this book form the begining to the end. She witness so much in her life at a young age by seeing her mother being killed. This book shows you the ups and downs of her life. It makes you examen your life to see if you could be that strong willed if you had to go through what she had experience.

A touching story.
This novel touched me in many ways. The reader is taken through the trama of Herrisene Jackson and her three siblings witnessing their mother being beaten and murdered by her boyfriend. As they yell and scream he tosses her out of their fifth floor apartment window in the early morning hours. This book takes the reader through some joys and a lot of pains that the writer suffered in her life. Once I started this novel I could not put it down. It was a page turner from the beginning until the end. Excellent!

Think About It: The Question Book for Those Curious About Race
Published in Paperback by iUniverse.com (October, 2000)
Authors: Ronald, II Jackson and Ronald L. Jackson
Average review score:

A Bestseller waiting to happpen!
Think About It! is just the kind of book needed to move private and public discussions of race forward. The book is not just about race. The subtitle is wrong on the website. It is "For those curious about race and self-discovery." Think About It! takes a wholistic approach to race by including comments about life. The book is the ONLY question book on the market that divides the book into chapters and easy to reference headings. It makes it so much easier to find questions again. It is also the ONLY question book to include over 100 quotes, one on every page with questions. It has been fun to read and every time I pick it up off my coffee table, I delightfully find something new that I did not see the first time or had not noticed within the question upon the first reading.

Think About It! is a treasure find that should be ordered in large quantities so that one can share this fun, thought-provoking volume with friends and family during holidays or non-holidays. I am planning to give the book to everyone for Christmas.

If this book gets in the hands of a major publisher like one of the New York publishing houses that publish thousands of titles per year, watch out America, because Think About It! is sure to be on every shelf in almost every home in the US. It is a NY Times Bestseller in the making! I would not be surprised if it sold a million copies in its first year!

As you can see, I have nothing but awesome things to say about it. I plan to take the author's advice and use it for diversity training purposes and for a few student groups on my campus.

A Must-Have in Everyone's Library
This book is a must-have! I introduced it to my family after Thanksgiving dinner and we learned more about each other in those three fast-moving, fun-filled hours than we have learned in the last ten years! We talked about age and gender-related identities, scientific studies of parallel universes, retirement, investing, and the "olden days." I feel closer to them now than ever before, thanks to Think About It! I can't wait for the sequel. If you don't buy this book, the loss is yours!

This book is so much more than another piece about race. It is a book for life. Whether it is about childrearing, religion, politics or the body, this book addresses it in some way or another. If you want a book that pretends to have all of the answers, then don't buy this book. Some books try to give all the answers, but this book is for those who want to know what the questions are!

Everyone should read this book
This book was off the hook. Some books you read now of days have a slow beginning and makes you want to stop reading. Well "this night belongs to you" isn't even like that. Its starts out with a bang and you find yourself never wanting to put it down. you travel through this book with Stacey and her crazy crew. Shelagh had me feeling like I was the main character. Read this book so you find out why I cried at the end.

Bravo for the new author, S. Jackson!
At a time in entertainment history where teenagers are dominating the television screens, the box office, and the music industry, in her new novel, This Night Belongs To You, Shelagh A. Jackson completes this wave of excitiement with a riveting storyline that delves into the self-centered minds of these blooming young adults. This Night Belongs To You makes you forget about Dawson's Creek, or American Pie, these teenagers here truly have it all! From faithful boyfriends, to money, to the best material possessions, to the best grades in school, and get this loyal friendships as well. Plus, the beautiful, vivacious green-eyed vixen Rachel Meredith keeps you laughing and ready to curse her all at the same time. This novel kept me turning the pages looking and asking for more. I truly hated to see it all end. But did it really end? Ms. Jackson has left us with sort of a cliffhanger. Whatever happened to the sexy, delicious Roger Jones? Will he ever find out about Stacey's pregnancy?

Tibetan Thangka Paint
Published in Hardcover by Random House (July, 1984)
Author: David Jackson
Average review score:

Must have!
This book is a must have for anyone interested in ancient Tibetan art and culture. It penetrates deep in to the tradition and lore involved in the creation of Thangkas.
It's even great on a technical level, giving us grids and proportion when painting Buddhas. The authors even explains how to create the pigments with authentic materials; as well as telling us where in the world to find them.

Indispensible resource.

The Ultimate ¿How to¿ book of Thangka Painting
This book assumes an interest in Thangka paintings. The book then proceeds to elaborate, step by step and in great detail, the process of creating one of these art works from the grinding of the color pigments to the finishing details with a brocade frame. If you are interested in this art form you couldn't ask for a better guide. Well written and thoroughly complete, it also includes drawings of any and every detail found in these paintings. If you are interested in creating a Thangka painting of your own this is the book for you.

A User Guide to the GF/CF Diet for Autism, Asperger Syndrome and AD/HD
Published in Paperback by Jessica Kingsley Pub (21 December, 2001)
Authors: Luke Jackson and Marilyn Le Breton
Average review score:

A brilliant, informative book
I am the grandmother of a wonderful 6-year-old boy who has been diagnosed autistic, and I've read both Luke Jackson's books (written at ages 12 and 13) in order to get a more complete understanding of the condition from a "kids eye view". I can only hope that Luke keeps writing for the masses.

This particular book is a treasure. The reader is treated to Luke's keen powers of observation and unflagging sense of humor, as always. We also get a couple of chapters written by his exceptional mother, Jacqui, who modestly denies being a "superwoman." (I beg to differ.) It's Jacqui who convinced me that if a woman in charge of a household of eight persons can master the art of gluten-free cooking, then the rest of us just might be equal to the task, as well. Last but not least, recipes, menus, and tips on acquiring and organizing necessary equipment are provided in thorough, easy-to-understand detail.

Perhaps all that might not sound exciting to the average person, but I can assure you that this is one of the most interesting and absorbing books ever to address the titled topics. Witness: in the middle of a work week, I began reading the book at about 11:30 p.m. and read it straight through. I couldn't put it down until I finished at nearly 3:00 a.m.

Inspired by Luke's work, I have gone on line to look up more information about gluten-free diets and related topics and have found a wealth of valuable information. However, the language I used to talk my grandson's family into attempting this new lifestyle came straight from the book reviewed here.

An invaluable resource. A "must" read for anyone dealing with a person who on "the autism scale." Thank you and bravo, Luke, Jacqui and Marilyn Le Breton. You have made a very necessary contribution with this publication.

Hearing child's perspective was a great help
My son, 6-yr-old with autism, has been on this diet for over 2 years, and I just read this book. It was very interesting reading the perspective of a child on the diet. I am now even more motivated to keep my son on the GF/CF diet. If you're thinking of starting it, this book will settle some of your concerns about implementing it, such as how your child will adjust, whether they really will start eating what you cook, what to do when other family members are not on the diet, etc. The author is also not the only child in his family who is GF/CF; he has two brothers on the diet as well and describes their experiences with it.
Luke and family are in the UK, so the appendices written by his mother will be more helpful for UK than US readers, but there is also lots of information that applies in the US. She provides some sample menus and recipes - there really are plenty of things to eat after eliminating gluten and casein. They have also included a list of sources for products, both for the UK and US.

Vedanta for the West: The Ramakrishna Movement in the United States (Religion in North America)
Published in Hardcover by Indiana University Press (May, 1994)
Author: Carl T. Jackson
Average review score:

Good General History Of The Ramakrishna Movement In The USA
One hundred years after the Vivekananda'a talks in Chicago at the World's Parliament of Religions in 1893, this book appears to trace and evaluate the spread of the Ramakrishna / Vedanta Movement in the USA. While he does no more than touch briefly on what the movement is doing presently in India, Jackson illustrates the peculiar forces at work in India and the US at the turn of the century that were so propitious to the movement's beginning. He shows the reasons for its early growth while so many other eastern religious imports languished and died, and sketches out the many causes of its later successes and failures. He does not go deeply into the theology or spirituality of Vedanta, but gives a brief summary of the lives of Ramakrishna and Vivekananda and their general teachings, and he contrasts the movement with the more modern USA phenomena of Krishna Consciousness and Transcendental Meditation. He suggests some of the strengths and weaknesses that will affect its future success. Most of the history of the movement has been written from within; it is good to have an outsider and a professional historian give his interpretation and present the various sides of the conflicts that have arisen. I think he presents an informative, objective, and balanced picture.

Comprehensive study
Written by a professor of history at the University of Texas, this medium sized book tells the story of the Ramakrishna-Vivekananda movement from it's asian and American preconditions, through it's origination, through it's first twenty difficult and upheaveled years up to the present time (ca. 1993). It also deals with questions like, how the organisation compares to other hindu groups in America, what the typical member looks like (, although this is based on too spare materials,), then what of the movements teachings appeals to western people etc. Highlights are topics like schisms, or the exclusion of of a swami from the organisation, who was a direct disciple of Ramakrishna. Then the many deaths of hartatacks of swamis, even one bombing. Although a scientific book, it reads nearly as easy as a novel. The number of facts Jackson has collected is amasing. Since he knows so much about the movement he can afford to write complitely unemotionally about the topic. Some of the critical statements he has hidden in the notes, probably for not totally offending the swamis. It has to be said, that this is not a spiritual book. The author avoids any spiritual statements. It's after all a history book.

Victorian Cottage Residences
Published in Paperback by Dover Pubns (June, 1981)
Authors: Andrew Jackson Downing and George E. Harney
Average review score:

A.J.Downing set a standard for early Victorian architecture.
A.J. Downing set the style for country suburban Victorian Cottages and gardens along the Hudson River in the 1830's and 1840's. All of his "cottages" featured fireplaces and architecturally important chimneys, usually with decorative chimney tops. Borrowing from painting and fine arts, Downing had definite opinions about color and appropriate use of materials. Provocative and interesting reading this book of cottage and garden plans and sketches is well worth reading. He set a standard for early Victorian architecture. - Jim Buckley

raves about A. J. Downing's "Victorian Cottage Residences"
"Victorian Cottage Residences" is a comprehensive book of twenty-something floor plans, mostly of Victorian houses (obviously) both large and small. For those into landscaping as well, this book is doubly wonderful; otherwise the advice on the apple trees is probably better skipped. However, for anyone who's even remotely interested in old homes or houses in general, this is a fantastic book to check out.
